Budding writer: story of hope

2010-10-20 00:00

BONGINKOSI Ngeleka is refusing to let his rural upbringing stand in the way of his goal to become a successful published author.

Ngeleka (19) has just finished work on his first short story collection My Life is like a Colour Wheel, and is to have the book published by UmSinsi Press.

He expects it to be launched by the end of the month if all goes well as far as funding is concerned.

Ngeleka said the book tells the story of his cousin who went on a business trip to Cape Town and was abandoned by his companions.

What started out as a situation of hopelessness turned out to be the catalyst for success for Ngeleka’s cousin as he made a life for himself in Cape Town, and this is precisely the message that Ngeleka attempts to portray in his book.

“The story is about not giving up and encouraging people to hold on to hope,” said Ngeleka.

Ngeleka, a grade 11 student at Nombuso High School in Munster, near Port Edward, says he only started writing last year.

“It has been my vision to write since grade 7, but I never knew how to approach it.

“Then last year I had a good teacher who showed me what to do and I’ve been writing ever since.”

Anyone who would like to support Ngeleka’s first publication can e-mail the Margate Art Museum at siyasotsu@gmail.com.
