Budget: Royal Household gets a R9?mln cut

2013-03-13 00:00

THE budget for the Royal Household will be decreased by almost R9 million over the next three years.

Finance MEC Ina Cronjé said the Royal Household’s budget decreased from R65,361 million in 2012/13 to R56 million in 2015/16.

“This is a nominal decrease of five percent,” Cronjé said.

She said that the reduction was due to the once-off allocation made between 2011/12 and 2013/14 for renovations of the palaces.

Cronjé also said the R63 million budget allocation for the 2013/14 financial year would enable King Goodwill Zwelithini to fulfil his official duties.

The Royal Household will spend this financial year’s budget on His Majesty’s participation in government ceremonies and events, install traditional leaders and to host the First Fruits and the Reed Dance ceremonies.

It will also use the budget for the king’s national and international travel trips as an ambassador of KwaZulu-Natal as well as enable him to be involved in crop and animal production.
