Bulwer: one dead, two wounded in mystery attack

2010-12-08 00:00

POLICE have launched a manhunt following a murder of a 39-year-old man and wounding of two others in Bulwer, outside Pietermaritzburg, on Sunday evening.

It is believed that the deceased, Mandla Ntshangase, and the wounded men, Stanford Xaba and Sonswabile Dlamini, were drinking inside a rondavel when two men fired shots at them at about 7 pm.

With them in the house during the attack were nine other people, including two children aged four and five.

Said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan, “It is alleged that they noticed two unknown men walking past the window of the rondavel and a short while later one of the men … entered the rondavel and fired two shots in Ntshangase’s direction, seriously wounding him.

“It is alleged that the suspect then left and moments later returned again and fired more shots at Ntshangase, fatally wounding him.”

Xaba was shot after he had hit one of the attackers on the chest with a knobkerrie. One of the bullets that were directed at Xaba hit Dlamini in the upper body.

“It is alleged that both suspects then went outside, where they broke the window to the rondavel and fired more shots at the deceased before fleeing the scene on foot.”

Jeevan said police are still trying to uncover the motive, and no arrests have yet been made.

She appealed to anyone with information about the attack to contact Captain Joel Zakwe at 039 832 0007 or 082 411 5164.
