Burned students improving

2010-12-15 00:00

UNIVERSITY students James Souchon (22) and Matt Owen (21), who were burned in an accidental gas explosion at a Drakensberg holiday home at the weekend, are both still in intensive care, but were both reported to be doing “much better” yesterday.

Souchon’s father, Daniel, said his son remained in a critical but stable condition yesterday, but added that there were “many more positive signs” yesterday than previously.

Souchon was reported to have suffered second degree burns to 65% of his body. He remains in the ICU at Entabeni hospital in Durban.

Owen, who suffered similar burns to 38% of his body, was “much brighter and feeling better” yesterday according to his mother.

She said the family have been inundated with messages of support, which had given her son a lift.

Owen is recuperating in the ICU at St Anne’s hospital.
