Burnt Clear Waters Spur to reopen in mid-October

2011-08-09 00:00

THE burnt wreck of the Clear Water Spur restaurant that overlooks the beach in Amanzimoti will open for business again by mid-October — in good time for the end-of-year school holidays.

KwaZulu-Natal regional manager Leonard Coetzee said, “We have received the shell of the building after a bit of delay with the municipal checks and our building team moves in on Monday [August 15].

“They typically finish the interior fixtures and decorations of a Spur in seven to eight weeks.”

Coetzee said the Clear Water Spur — one of the top five franchises among the more than 30 in the province — burned so long because the roof was originally designed for a restaurant named after the sunken Poseidon ship.

“Inside, the roof resembled an upside-down hull, with lots of exposed timber, which burned a long time.

“For the new Clear Water Spur we have designed a double-pitch gable roof that is more modern and a lot less fire-friendly,” Coetzee added.
