Bus crash leaves 10 injured

2013-11-25 00:00

TEN people were injured, two critically, in Clare Road, Sydenham, on Saturday afternoon when a bus collided with a car before leaving the road and crashing into the boundary walls of a home.

eThekwini KwaZulu-Natal EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said two people were trapped by the bus, one underneath the vehicle, and another between the bus and a house wall. Hydraulic equipment had to be used to lift the bus to free one person from the wreckage.

One patient was flown by the KZN EMS air ambulance helicopter to Inkosi Albert Luthuli hospital.

The other critically injured patient, and other patients with minor injures, were taken to King Edward hospital by private ambulances. Traffic in the area was hugely affected.

“It is unclear what caused the collision. However, the SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further,” said Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

The owner of the home could not be contacted for comment.
