Businesses determined to stay open

2008-08-01 00:00

IT appears that most businesses in and around the high court that will hear Jacob Zuma’s application in the Pietermaritzburg CBD on Monday and Tuesday plan to remain open.

A number of store managers and business owners who spoke to The Witness were resolved to stay open, although they said they were very concerned about the impact of road closures in the area.

Their concerns relate to the fact that staff members will most likely fhave trouble in accessing company parking facilities in the central business district.

The manager of Adams Book Sellers, Tertia Botes, said they will remain open on both days. She expressed concern over security in the area during this period.

One of the deciding factors will be the availability of public transport. Most businesses said it will be difficult to operate if minibus taxis are not available because employees will not be able to come to work.
