Bystander gets death threats after crashed car’s number plates removed

2010-06-29 00:00

A TAUNTON Road resident has questioned the handling of an accident that happened there on Sunday evening.

The resident, who claimed he was intimidated at the scene of the accident by the friends of the man who allegedly crashed the VW minibus and the tow truck operators who came to remove the car, said a man at the scene denied he was the driver and that it had been his brother who had fled the scene.

He also claimed that the man who was left at the crash site appeared to be drunk and that he immediately removed the number plates from the car.

He said police did not check the man’s licence.

Speaking to The Witness, the Taunton Road resident claimed that the accident was the fourth there in recent weeks. “Someone is going to get hurt. There should be speed bumps there.”

He asked The Witness not to name him as he has received death threats.

Police said that, on investigation, no case has been opened in connection with the accident, but that an accident report has been filed.
