CD Review: Great Hits

2008-06-20 00:00

This fabulous compilation is a great reminder of the band’s contribution to popular music. Frankie Goes To Hollywood was hugely popular in the mid-eighties. The band was no stranger to controversy. Its debut single, Relax, was famously banned by the BBC which considered it overtly sexual, especially following the release of a music video filmed in an S&M den, but the song topped the charts and became one of the best-selling UK singles of all time.

The band’s second single, the anti-war Two Tribes, was accompanied by another provocative video which featured lookalikes of Cold War leaders Ronald Reagan and Konstatin Chernenko wrestling, which finished with an image of the earth exploding.

If you haven’t listened to the band in years then get this one. It’s great.
