CORRECTION: GHS win hockey title with 45 seconds left

2014-06-25 00:00

IT was inadvertently printed in yesterday’s Witness that St Anne’s had won the Girl’s A-League hockey title.

The winners were in fact the GHS first team.

Going into the title-deciding match, log-leaders GHS had won five games and drawn one, for a total of 16 points, while St Anne’s had won five matches and lost one (0-1 to St John’s) for a total of 15 points, leaving the Hilton-based girls needing a win to take the honours, while a draw would suffice for the unbeaten GHS team.

St Anne’s had led 1-0 until, with 45 seconds left, Polly Mashau scored the equaliser for a 1-1 draw, a result that ensured the 2014 Parklane Superspar Girls’ A League title went to GHS.

The errors are regretted.
