CSA to interview chief executive candidates next week

2013-07-11 00:00

Cape Town — Cricket South Africa (CSA) will interview three candidates for the role of chief executive next week, a report on the ESPNcricinfo website indicates.

CSA was due to announce its new head at the beginning of this month, but the process suffered numerous delays.

Former ICC chief Haroon Lorgat appears to be the favourite, with the other two candidates yet to be confirmed.

Others include Bheki Shongwe, head of local soccer giants Kaizer Chiefs, university professor Denver Hendricks and Murphy Morobe, the head of Kagiso Media.

Lorgat is the only one with vast experience in cricket, so it would make sense to choose him.

However, it will be interesting to see if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has any influence in the matter. It was recently reported that the BCCI is unhappy with Lorgat being in line.

He developed a strained relationship with India’s board during his four years in charge at the ICC when he irked them with his positive stance on the Decision Review System.

Earlier reports indicated the BCCI even threatened to pull out of next season’s tour to South Africa should Lorgat be appointed.

Jacques Faul served as interim CEO since March 2012 after former CEO Gerald Majola was suspended and then dismissed due to a bonus scandal.

Faul recently left the job to undertake the role of CEO at Northerns Cricket Union.
