Calendar man to be fired

2007-12-08 00:00

The municipality’s legitimate calendar is pictured right.

This week a 2008 calendar bearing the Msunduzi name surfaced, illustrated with photos of a voluptuous and scantily clad woman. The Witness reported this week that a council employee had ordered it from a local printer and that it had been distributed to staff. It is believed that the order amounted to about R800, but council has not disclosed how many calendars were ordered.

Hlatswayo told The Witness yesterday that she has interpreted the incident as a personal attack and said that it is humiliating for the city.

“We cannot have an employee putting council into disrepute like this. We will not tolerate it and he will be dealt with very severely.”

Hlatswayo said that she questioned the perpetrator’s agenda. “Does he want to taint the city’s image, or is it because we have a woman mayor? I don’t believe that he would have done this if we had a male as mayor.”

Hlatswayo said that she had not yet seen the offending calendar. “I don’t want to look at it,” she said.

She said the fact that the calendar was distributed during the 16 Days

of Activism on Violence Against Women and Children came as a double blow.
