A LAWYER for the woman charged with snatching baby Olwethu from his mother at the Pietermaritzburg offices of the Home Affairs Department wants a psychologist’s report before the case continues.
Attorney Phumlani Fakude, acting for the alleged kidnapper, Nokulunga Patience Mzila, asked for an adjournment so they can get a report.
Mzila is out on R1 000 bail.
Dressed in a red leather jacket, black t-shirt, khaki skirt and brown boots, she looked calm as she was called to the dock. She consulted with Fakude before the court could proceed.
Magistrate Ntsoaki Ndawonde granted an adjournment to August 7.
Baby Olwethu’s disappearance made headlines after he was taken from his mother, Nonhlanhla Madlala, on April 14.
A woman said to be Mzila allegedly offered to hold him while Madlala was busy filling out forms to apply for a birth certificate at the Home Affairs office.
The woman allegedly disappeared with the child.
Weeks after his disappearance, Olwethu was returned to his parents in good health on June 3 after Madlala spotted him in the arms of Mzila at Edendale Mall and informed the police.
