Calling for more speed humps

2011-07-05 00:00

NORTHDALE residents are calling for more speed humps in the area after a series of accidents in Balhambra Way.

The latest accident took place on Friday when a car crashed into a yard, damaging the pavement, a carport, a gate and another car.

Brian Zuma, spokesperson for Msunduzi Municipality, said the residents will need to apply at the road and transport section for speed humps. He said there is a long waiting list.

Beeman Chetty, a resident of Balhambra Way, was woken up by a loud crash at about 12.45 am on Friday. When he and his wife, Thosiemal, went to inspect, they found a red Toyota Corolla outside their house.

On further inspection they found damage to their front garden, gate, carport roof and to their son’s car, which was parked in front of the house.

The driver of the Corolla waited for a breakdown truck and the police. Chetty alleged that the police did not give the driver a breathalyser test.

He said that on Sunday, June 26, there was a three-car pile-up on the corner of Balhambra Way and Jupiter Street.

Attempts to get comment from the police about the driver not being breathalysed were unsuccessful.
