Campaign to restore pride in city

2010-05-07 00:00

THE KZN provincial government and the embattled Msunduzi Municipality will next week embark on a campaign to rally stakeholders to contribute to the reviving of the council.

On Thursday, government will host a breakfast launch of the “Friends of Our City” campaign at the city hall, Pietermaritzburg.

According to a statement released yesterday by the KZN provincial Treasury, the initiative is aimed at rebuilding Pietermaritzburg by getting all relevant stakeholders to work together in promoting development in the city.

The initiative will also help boost stakeholders’ confidence and ensure that all those involved are brought together to work as one city family in ensuring that the city once again becomes a capital to be proud of.

The provincial government will be represented by Premier Zweli Mkhize, Finance MEC Ina Cronjé and Co-operative Governance MEC Nomusa Dube, while the Msunduzi Municipality will be represented by its new leadership.

Provincial and local government representatives will form part of more than 300 stakeholders from different organisations who will be present at the launch.

These will include the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, the Msunduzi Innovation Development Institute, the Pietermaritzburg Ratepayers’ Association, religious organisations, traditional leadership, the uMgungundlovu District Municipality and taxi associations. Many others are also expected to attend.
