Candles part of mall’s saving plan

2008-02-10 00:00

Liberty Midlands Mall is getting into the spirit of saving electricity after Eskom asked major corporations to reduce their power usage by 10%.

And in embracing this, Valentine’s dinners will be romantically candle lit.

Marketing manager Cassy Wintgens said the mall has proactively taken steps to reduce the amount of power being used on site.

However, Wintgens assured shoppers that they will not be affected by these controls and tenants will be able to trade consistently to ensure a pleasurable shopping experience.

"The main lights in the Food Court area have been turned off, but the minor lights will remain on … The lighting in the undercover parking has been readjusted to conserve energy.

"Together with consultants, the mall has assessed how best to conserve energy on the air-conditioning system and has implemented tight timing schedules to ensure there is no unnecessary use," said Wintgens.
