Cane truck: Man dies in crash

2011-11-15 00:00

A 21-YEAR-OLD man died in a vehicle collision in Hibberdene last Friday.

Neil Watt and a passenger were travelling on the N2 at about 9 pm when his vehicle collided with a sugar cane truck.

The injured passenger was taken to Port Shepstone Hospital for treatment. The truck driver sustained no injuries.

“The cause of the accident is being investigated,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. Southport detectives have opened a culpable homicide docket.

This is the fifth motor vehicle accident in the Hibberdene area in a week.

Hibberdene police are investigating four cases of reckless and negligent driving.

Wiid warned motorists to be extra vigilant during the run-up to the festive season. “Don’t let ignorance and bad road manners cause you to be arrested for reckless and negligent driving or even culpable homicide,” she said.
