Cansa: Time to shave or spray your hair

2009-03-03 00:00

Shave or spray your hair a multitude of colours at the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Shavathon at workplaces on Friday, or at your nearest shopping centre on Saturday.

“Shave or spray in solidarity with a cancer survivor” is the theme of this year’s Cansa Shavathon because hair loss is a common side-effect of cancer treatment, said Sue Janse van Rensburg, national executive director of Cansa, herself a cancer survivor.

“Many South Africans take part in the Cansa Shavathon on behalf of a loved one who is living with cancer or who has lost the battle with the disease.”

Spray or shave for a R50 donation, which goes towards Cansa’s prevention programmes and patient care services in the region where the event takes place.

Shaving will not be completely clean-shaven with the shortest being number one on the Wahl Clippers. Colour spray options are pink, blue, green, purple, silver and gold so you can choose one or a combination of colours. Some people collect pledges, while others even shave and then spray to double their support.

You can also make a donation any day to Cansa Shavathon by going to your nearest Nedbank branch.

To host workplace shavathons on Friday, companies, organisations, schools and colleges must register now on www.shavathon.org.za or can e-mail Margie Laubscher at shavathon@cansa.org.za or phone 011 616 7662.
