An international photographic exhibition documenting the modern-day exodus of Ethiopia’s persecuted Jewish community to Israel opens at Artisan Contemporary Gallery in Florida Road, Durban, at 6 pm on Wednesday.

“The 64 large-format photographs by Ilan Ossendryver, Avi Hirschfield and Jeremy Feldman vividly capture the faces, feelings and life experiences of the translocation of a dispossessed people to a new world,” said Artisan curator, Sue Greenberg.

Ossendryver will be opening the exhibition which will also provide a platform for the Durban launch of Len Lyons’s book, The Ethiopian Jews of Israel: Personal Stories of Life in the Promised Land.

Weekday gallery hours are from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. Titled Ethiopia in Israel, the exhibition runs to February 22, then moves to the Durban Jewish Centre.

For more information, phone Sue Greenberg at 031 312 4364 or Lauren Shapiro at the KwaZulu-Natal Zionist Council at 031 337 1507.
