Party-goers in Durban, Maritzburg are spoilt for choice WHETHER you fancy a bit of South African house music, some kwaito or want to dance the night away to the country’s hottest DJs, you will be able to find a hot party in Durban and Pietermaritzburg this New Year’s Eve. Chart-toppers Mi Casa are the headline act at the Golden Horse Casino’s New Year’s Bash in Scottsville. The band, whose members are producer and club DJ Dr Duda, vocalist and guitarist J-Something, and trumpeter Mo-T, play a special brand of soulful house music that merges dance music, jazz, vocals, and disco. Their debut self-titled album spawned hits like These Streets, Heavenly Sent, All the Glory and La Vida and the follow-up has produced the mega-hit Jika. Micasa will be joined by Durban-based kwaito band Big Nuz and DJ Tira for the party, which is being staged in partnership with Gagasi FM. The New Year’s Bash will kick off at 4 pm at Golden Horse’s infield area, and will run until 1.30 am. Tickets are R150 at Computicket or Shoprite and Checkers stores and R200 at the gate. HOLY GHOST PARTY Durban Christian Centre will be playing host to a Christian event with the theme “Zajikizinto! — The Word, Worship and Praise” on New Year’s Eve from 6 pm to 6 am. UMHLANGA NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY 5FM’s hottest DJs will be powering the decks at the radio station’s Official VIP Only party at the Wavehouse at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga tonight. Guests will be treated to welcome drinks, a goodie bag, and music from 5FM’s Ultimix winner Ryan the DJ, DJ Zinhle, and 5FM’s Poppy, Roger Goode and Gareth Cliff. MIDMAR MUSIC FESTIVAL Some of the biggest names in South African music will be performing at the sixth Midmar Music Festival at Midmar Dam, near Howick, tonight. Mafikizolo, The Soil, Naima Kay, Crochet, Donald, Big Nuz, T’zozo, Dreamteam, Mtshengiseni, DJs Tira, Bongs, Cindo, Happy Gal, Menace, Mpilo and Da Rocker are all on the programme. One of the most anticipated performances will be that of Bongo Maffin who will be performing exclusively at this event as an original group. The band, made up of Thandiswa, Jahseed, Stoan and Speedy, will be performing together for the first time eight years after they parted to pursue solo careers. Fans can expect to hear hits like The Way Kungakhona, Thath’isigubhu, Kura Uone, and more. Tickets range from R160 to R450 at Computicket. A RIGHT POSH MESS From 8.30 pm tonight the Origin Nightclub at 9 Clark Road, Durban, will be hosting Origin NYE 2014 — A Right Posh Mess!
