ASSMANG Manganese from Cato Ridge were the winners of the the Witness Woz’Ophola Corporate Soccer Challenge organised in conjunction with uMgungundlovu District Municipality that was played over the weekend.

Assmang Manganese beat last year’s champions, St Anne’s Hospital, after a penalty shoot-out. As well as the trophy, the winners took home R3 000 in cash. The runners-up received R1 500.

The team from St Anne’s won the women’s section of the competition.

Twenty-eight teams took part in the football tournament played at the Dalry Park Sports Grounds, which drew appreciative spectators, despite the bad weather.

It was the second year of the tournament and there are plans to expand it further.
