Celtic duo to miss United tie

2015-04-18 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Midfielders Jacky Motshegwa and Gregory Maasdorp are both out of Bloemfontein Celtic’s Premiership meeting against Maritzburg United at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium tomorrow.

Motshegwa has been given time off due to illness while Maasdorp has a hamstring problem.

Both were absent from Siwelele’s 5-0 thumping of Mamelodi Sundowns in midweek, a result that realistically put an end to the reigning champions’ hopes of retaining their title.

The three points for Celtic also pulled them clear of the chasing pack in fifth with four games to play.

“The most impressive thing about beating Sundowns was not our attack, but the overall work of the team,” coach Clinton Larsen said when he reflected back on the win in Tshwane.

“Overall we did very well and we’ll hope to continue our form over the closing weeks of the season.”

The coach’s former club, the Team of Choice, are not having the best of times in 2015. They have won only twice out of eight games this year and are just about clinging on to their hopes of ending the campaign in the top eight.

Steve Komphela’s men, who lost 1-0 to Mpumalanga Black Aces in midweek, only have one injury absentee — captain Ashley Hartog (knee).
