Ceramics and load shedding

2008-06-12 00:00

artSPACE in Durban is hosting a combined exhibition by Ceramics Southern Africa KZN and Photogarage. The exhibition opened on Monday and closes on June 21 at 1 pm. There will be a walkabout on that day at noon.

For the KZN Regional Ceramic Exhibition artists created ceramic art that relates to the theme of lights and electricity. Their brief was to create a ceramic piece as a response to the load shedding. Work on show will be a mix of the serious and the downright hilarious. Well-known artists such as Clive Sithole, Anthony Shapiro, Carla da Cruz, Juliet Armstrong and Martha Zettler will be exhibiting alongside other members of Ceramics Southern Africa KZN.

Photogarage is a space and concept created by local photographer Angela Buckland in response to requests for her to conduct a photographic course. The work displayed is what was achieved in the second phase of the workshop, and part of it is a collaboration with the ceramicists under the theme Bright Lights.

Gallery hours are 10 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday and 10 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. For more information, phone 031 312 0793 or visit www.artspacedurban.co.za
