Changes to KZN squad

2007-11-27 00:00

In-form Proteas number three Test batsman Hashim Amla returns to the Dolphins line-up for the Western Cape Cobras match, as does left-arm swing bowler Yusuf Abdullah — who will hopefully be over his groin injury — while all-rounder Jon Kent sits out.

The squad of 12 that saw action in the previous SS Series match — a somewhat fortunate draw against the Highveld Lions at Sedgars Park in Potchefstroom two weeks ago — has been increased to 13 for the PMB Oval match, which means that fellow left-arm seamer Mlongo is providing cover for Abdullah should the latter break down in the next 72 hours.

Abdullah’s post-groin injury bowling and fitness has been looking good, convenor of selectors Naidoo told The Witness late yesterday, but a final report on his fitness has still to be received from the physiotherapist.

The Dolphins lie in second place on the log with the Cobras in joint fourth place.

KZN Dolphins (from): Doug Watson, Imraan Khan, Hashim Amla, Ahmed Amla (capt), Wayne Madsen, Rivash Gobind, Jonathan Vandiar, Johann Louw, Liam Plunkett, Daryn Smit, Quinton Friend, Saidi Mlongo, Yusuf Abdullah.

Fifth round (from Thursday): Dolphins vs Cobras (PMB); Eagles vs Warriors (Bloemfontein); Titans vs Lions (Centurion).

After four rounds: 1 Free State/Griquas Eagles 49.16 log points; 2 KZN Dolphins 45.60 pts; 3 Eastern Cape Warriors 36.46 pts; 4 Western Cape Cobras and Highveld Lions 24.60 pts; 6 Northern Titans 22.40 pts.

• Dolphins docked two log points for slow over rate against Eagles in opening match.
