Characters sure to be favourites

AFTER watching The Lego Movie at the cinema recently, there was only one thing left to do, and that was to become Emmet, masterbuilder and the protagonist in the story.

The Lego Movie video game stays true to the movie and one becomes easily engrossed in the playable characters. When playing with a friend there is likely to be a tussle over who gets to play which character.

The game follows the film’s story of Emmet (voice by Chris Pratt), an ordinary construction worker who becomes the key piece in a story that involves stopping the evil Lord Business (voice by Will Ferrell) from using the Kragle to make this a static Lego world.

The game begins just as the movie does, with the wizard Vitruvius (voice by Morgan Freeman) attempting to stop Lord Business from using the Kragle.

The story then takes you down the “I know where we’re going” path if you’ve watched the movie.

Gameplay follows a first-person, action-cam format, with the characters able to use their own abilities to contribute to the storyline, and do tasks that need to be completed to progress through the game. When not playing the game with company, switching between characters can become troublesome.

When playing a game such as this, one would expect the tasks to be simpler as the game is rated for all ages. However, some of the tasks are quite difficult to complete and can keep one battling for hours to come to a conclusion.

So, after completing the tasks don’t be too shy to give yourself a pat on the back as this game can at times become more than just child’s play.

The graphics seem to have taken a backseat in the development of the title, but the attention to small detail remains, for example, those involving the fires, explosions and ocean, are all good. Puns and those memorable moments from the movie are stitched into the gameplay. The Lego Movie video game will keep people of all ages occupied for hours on end and can be seen as the pinnacle of all Lego video games, so it’s only fitting that the game plays as well as it does.
