RACKETEERING charges were formally added in the regional court yesterday against 26 people accused of forming a copper cable theft syndicate.

They face a total of 189 charges arising from the theft of copper cables and conductors from Transnet and Eskom in KwaZulu-Natal.

Prosecutor Annelize Harrison told magistrate Corrie Greyling the state anticipates its evidence will take three to six months to present.

The case was postponed to December 12, when it is expected that a trial date could be set.
