Charity: DJ to raise money for crèche

2012-08-22 00:00

UKHOZI FM DJ, Bongani Mtolo, is using his hobby to raise money for charity. Mtolo, who has been a runner for years, will be taking part in the Mandela Day Marathon on August 26 to try and raise money for Isidingo, a Copesville crèche.

The crèche has about 100 children and most of them cannot afford to pay fees. It also has a shortage of equipment.

Mtolo thinks his involvement will make a difference.

The idea to run the race for charity was suggested by a friend and Mtolo thought it was worth the try.

“I have always thought that one needs a lot of money to help charities,” he told The Witness.

“But I think this is a good way of helping without digging too much into your pocket.”

He met up with someone from Youth of Choice, a non-governmental organisation involved with many charities and they referred him to Isidingo.

He then met up with the owner of the preschool.

“The school is run in a small room in the back yard of a house.

“There is only one bed and some of the kids sleep on the floor.

“There are two toilets which they share and there are no tables or chairs,” he said.

He said any form of help would be appreciated.

“Money, blankets or chairs or anything else you can help with is welcome,” he said.

This is Mtolo’s first involvement with charity and he hopes to do more. If you want to help send an e-mail to
