Charlene’s Prince Albert II of Monaco says SA is ideal location for honeymoon

2010-08-07 00:00

PRINCE Albert II of Monaco and former South African swimmer Charlene Wittstock will be spending part of their honeymoon in KwaZulu-Natal, having shifted the date of their wedding so the prince can attend an Olympic committee meeting in Durban.

The prince, a member of the International Olympic Committee, brought their wedding — initially scheduled for July 8 and 9 — forward a week to avoid a clash with the gathering in Durban from next July 5.

Prince Albert had requested that Wittstock’s first foreign visit as his wife should be to South Africa, which he also regards as an ideal location for “a post-wedding holiday”.

Charlene remains close friends with her Olympic coach Wayne Riddin, and recently hosted the KZN Seals swimming team in Monaco.

Riddin revealed that he will be visiting the couple with local singer Jason Hartman, who will be performing at a private function in Monaco, to be attended by Wittstock and the prince at the end of August.
