Cheetahs: Raubenheimer signs

2011-07-26 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Springbok Davon Raubenheimer will officially become a Free State player on November 1, after he signed a two-year contract with the franchise.

Raubenheimer, who played a starring role in the Cheetahs best Vodacom Super Rugby season this year, will complete the move from Griquas where he has been contracted for the past few years.

After rumours that Riaan Viljoen will be heading to Western Province to further his career, and that Sarel Pretorius has committed his future to the Waratahs, the move will continue to deplete Griquas, who have become a victim of the Cheetahs’ success.

For coach Naka Drotské the acquisition of Raubenheimer ensures he cannot be snatched away by another Super Rugby franchise with a tough 2012 season approaching. This means Drotské will have at least four Springboks available in his loose trio for next year — with Raubenheimer joining Kabamba Floors, Heinrich Brüssow (whose contract still needs to be finalised) and Juan Smith.
