Chiefs interested in Ajax’s Sibisi

AS much as Diyo Sibisi is grateful to Maritzburg United for reviving what was a waning career, he is keen to step up by joining a bigger club that will offer him greater challenges.

The stocky marksman from Sahlumbe in Ladysmith enjoyed an impressive six months in Pietermaritzburg on loan from Ajax Cape Town, where he says he was becoming grumpy owing to a lack of game time.

Sibisi’s contribution, 11 goals in the league and one in a cup match, was easy to see as the club staved off what was a close relegation battle.

Now with his loan deal expired Sibisi is wanted back at Ajax, but there are other suitors for his services. Kaizer Chiefs is one of the teams interested in the player, and in an interview with The Witness, Sibisi could not conceal his desire to join the glamorous Gauteng outfit.

“I will be forever grateful to Maritzburg for helping me show people I still have a lot to offer after I underwent a goal drought at Ajax.

“I have no problem with continuing my career here as long as I will be offered a better deal and assured game time. But I won’t lie to you — the news that Chiefs want me has excited me and I really would like to play for them. I am aware that Ajax, with whom I still have a year remaining in my contract, are engaged in talks with Maritzburg and Chiefs regarding my transfer,” he said.

Sibisi’s career has not reached the level it was expected to, perhaps owing to his turning out for different teams since breaking into the professional set-up five seasons ago.
