Child rape: Father jailed

A MAN (39) who raped his eight-year-old child was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment in the Camperdown Regional Court on Friday.

Police spokesperson, captain Thulani Zwane said during last February the child’s mother left her with her father at Mpumalanga township.

“When she came back, she noticed that there was something wrong with her child. The victim was questioned and she reported that she was raped by her father,” Zwane said.

A case of rape was opened at Mpumalanga police station and was investigated by the Pinetown Family Violence, Children and Sexual Offences Unit.

The child was taken to the doctor who confirmed that she had been raped.

The KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, said, “This little girl was supposed to be protected by her father against any form of abuse, but instead he raped her”. — Witness Reporter.
