Child rape: man arrested

2010-03-19 00:00

A 22-YEAR-OLD man will appear shortly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of child rape.

Police spokesman Superintendent Jay Naicker said that on February 19 a report was received that a nine-year-old child had been raped in Thornville on February 14.

Police said the girl was sleeping in a room with her 18-year-old sister. The sister awoke at about 11.50 pm and saw her boyfriend leaving the room.

It is not clear whether the boyfriend had been invited to the room.

A week later the child was behaving strangely and her mother took her to the clinic where it was discovered that she had been raped.

Yesterday the Thornville police went to a house in the Canaan area and arrested the 22-year-old boyfriend.
