THE first day back at school was marred for five children who were involved in an accident on Edendale Road, Pietermaritzburg, yesterday morning.

Luyanda Majija of ER24 said the children all suffered minor injuries.

“The children, aged eight to 12, were being transported to school on the back of a bakkie when its brakes allegedly failed, causing it to collide with a sedan.

The children were treated for minor injuries and transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg and other hospitals,” said Majija.

He added that the drivers of both vehicles involved in the collision sustained no injuries.
