Children’s hospital fundraiser

2013-09-16 00:00

THE KZN Children’s Hospital Trust is raising much-needed funds towards the cost of construction of the children’s hospital, in a fun, healthy way.

The trust will be hosting its first Fun Walk on September 28, to raise funds for the refurbishment of the hospital. Shemona Moonilal, operational manager for the trust, said they need a lot of support to fulfil the vision of a world-class children’s healthcare hub for the province.

The fun walk will start at 9 am, following a route from the promenade outside the Suncoast Casino complex to the KZN Children’s Hospital on South Beach.

Entries are R180 per person (with a hospital branded T-shirt) and R100 (no T-shirt).

Registration forms and tickets are available at the trust offices on the first floor of the hospital.

The trust needs over R200 million for the project to be completed by 2016.

The provincial Health Department and the trust are in the process of revamping the structure of Addington Children’s Hospital for use as a public children’s hospital.

The hospital used to be a state-of-the-art children’s facility until it was shut down by the apartheid government in 1984 after it opened its doors to children of colour.

The hospital has remained closed for the past 29 years.
