Christmas has come early for two lucky ‘Witness’ subscribers

CHRISTMAS came early for two Witness subscribers yesterday, as the winners of brand new cars sponsored by The Witness.

Lestelle Tanita Barnwell (23) from Scottsville and Michelle Reddy (35) from Hayfields drove away with a Toyota Aygos each in the climax to The Witness’ subscriber competition.

The draw was open to Witness readers who took subscriptions of between six and 12 months.

Barnwell said, “I started reading The Witness in primary school, and now just subscribed to the paper because it’s our local paper.

“I am so happy! This car comes [at the time] when I was planning to buy a new car for myself. I was using an old car.

“This is the earliest Christmas present I have ever received,” said Barnwell.

Reddy — who struggled to believe that she had won a car — told The Witness that at first she thought it was a scam. “These days we receive SMSes telling us that you have won something. When you call it’s a scam. This time around I asked my friend to make a call for me so she could find out for me. Even though I entered for the competition, but there is that feeling that I can’t explain!”

Reddy added that the service she received from her subscription was one of the best. “When I complain as a reader they solve my problem as soon as possible.

“Sometimes when I did not get my paper they would make sure I got it,” said Reddy.

One car offered was blue and the other silver.

Both winners had hoped to win the blue car, so The Witness general manager Andre Olivier stepped in to help them choose by asking each to choose a basic key from his hand — and see which car it fitted.

Reddy was thrilled to choose her blue dream machine.

They both added that in return for such a marvellous prize they were going to be the paper’s ambassadors, as they would be recruiting new readers to The Witness.
