Church noise — no report

2014-08-08 00:00

COUNCILLOR Naleni Atwaru is in hot water for an overdue report on the noise complaint involving the Threshing Floor Bible Church.

Atwaru had conveyed to council the concerns of residents about the issue. Council resolved that she be given two weeks to consult with the leaders of the church and report back to the executive committee.

Thulani Xulu (ANC) yesterday questioned the absence of the report, while DA caucus leader Bill Lambert jumped to Atwaru’s defence.

He said Xulu was a relatively new Exco member and did not know that there were many outstanding reports.

Mayor Chris Ndlela said there was no need to pick on Xulu being a new member as he had asked a valid question.

Ndlela asked municipal manager Mxolisi Nkosi to ask Atwaru for the report. “We want that report. Remember we are talking about issues of religion, which are very sensitive,” he said.

Atwaru was contacted but did not get back to The Witness by the time of going to press.
