2012-01-28 00:00

A RAID by various law enforcement agencies in Pietermaritzburg targeting illegal activities taking place in taxi ranks and other dodgy areas in the central business district (CBD) led to dagga and alcohol being confiscated.

The operation which took place on Friday, consisted of the South African Police Services, Msunduzi Municipal traffic officers with their counterparts from the Environmental Division Health and members of the Provincial Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI).

The operation confiscated cases of beer, bottles of vodka, bags full of dagga, Kuber — an allegedly highly addictive drug–and destroyed sorghum beer which was infested with cockroaches.

The law enforcers pounced alleged illegally traders at the notorious Matsheni area adjacent to the Sweetwaters’ rank in downtown Retief Street.
