City swimmers continued to excel at the recent Muscle Science KwaZulu-Natal Championships that ended at the King’s Park pool on Monday.

Young Mickey Olivier (Seals) was the best performer, with one gold, two silver and three bronze medals in the boys 12 to 13 years age group. The 12-year-old was the best performer last year in the 11 years and under age group and did very well to achieve these results in his first year among the 12- and 13-year age group.

Olivier won the 13 years and under 200 m backstroke in an excellent 2:32,46 and took second places in the 50 m backstroke (31,70) and 100 m backstroke (1:09,77). His third places came in the 50 m freestyle (27,47), the 100 m freestyle (1:00,57) and the 100 m butterfly (1:08,61).

Another up-and-coming star was clubmate Lauren Cartwright, who took two gold medals in the girls 12-13 years 100 m backstroke (1:11,59) and the girls 13 years and under 200 m backstroke (2:36,65). Cartwright also finished second in the 50 m backstroke in 33,44sec.

Other gold medals came from Mark Hunter (Seals) in the boys 11 years and under 100 m breaststroke (1:26,29) — and also took the silver in the 50m breaststroke (39,54sec) after clubmate Daniel Ferreira pipped him by just 0,03sec to take the gold. Ferreira also won the bronze in the 100 m breaststroke (1:29,00).

Other golds came from U.S.-based Seals swimmers Neil Versfeld in the men’s 100 m breaststroke (1:04,44) and the 200 m breatstroke (2:14,77), while Troyden Prinsloo took the 1 500 m freestyle in 15:15,86.
