City will fix street lights

City engineers have said they will look into problems with street lights in the Athlone and Montrose areas. Many sections of streets in those suburbs have been without street lighting, or have had only intermittent lighting in recent weeks.

And while many motorists from that area have been irritated by the traffic light at the intersection of Montgomery Drive and Town Bush Road flashing red on all sides recently, Trevor Cowie, acting strategic executive manager for infrastructure, services and facilities, said the department had not previously received a complaint and was not aware that this was a continuing problem.

“This robot does not form part of the central computerised traffic light system. The problem will be inspected and resolved as a matter of urgency, as this intersection could be dangerous …”
