Clooney drama opens

2010-01-29 00:00

A DRAMA starring George Clooney, a ninja film and Disney’s latest animated adventure open at CineCentre in the Liberty Midlands Mall today.

Jason Reitman, the Oscarnominated director of Juno, directs the Golden Globe-winning film Up in the Air, which tells the story of Ryan Bingham (Clooney), a corporate downsizer and consummate modern business traveller.

While Ryan enjoys his unencumbered lifestyle, lived out in airports, hotels and rental cars, he has nothing real to hold on to. When he falls for a fellow traveller, his boss, inspired by a young, upstart efficiency expert, threatens to permanently call him in from the road. Faced with the prospect of being grounded, Ryan begins to contemplate what it might actually mean to have a home.

In Disney’s The Princess and The Frog, the classic story The Frog Prince gets a modern makeover.

When arrogant, carefree Prince Naveen is transformed into a frog by a conniving voodoo magician, he cajoles a waitress called Tiana into kissing him to break the spell, as he thinks that she’s a princess. Instead she too becomes a frog and the pair, with the help of a trumpet-playing alligator and a Cajun firefly, set out on a journey to break the spell and fulfil their dreams.

The third new film opening in Pietermaritzburg is Ninja Assassin, which tells the story of Raizo, a man trained since childhood to be a lethal killer. But instead of fulfilling hisdestiny he has turned his back on the Ozunu clan that raised him and now seeks revenge for their heartless murders.
