RICHARD Levi bludgeoned his way to a 50 as the Cape Cobras cruised to a seven-wicket win over the Dolphins in a rain-affected Ram Slam T20 Challenge match at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban last night.

Left-arm spinner George Linde claimed 3-15 off two overs after the Dolphins were held to 84-8 after rain had delayed the start of the match for two hours resulting in the contest being reduced to a 10-overs per-side affair.

Levi then smashed 54 off just 27 deliveries with seven fours and two sixes as the Cobras cantered to 89-3 with four balls of their innings left.

The right-handed Levi raced to his fifty off just 25 balls before he was caught at long-off by Robbie Frylinck off a delivery from seamer Dwayne Bravo in the eighth over.

Levi was particularly strong on the leg side while be brought up his half-century with a powerful cut shot over point for four.

Andrew Puttick (9) and Levi put on 34 runs for the first wicket before Puttick was bowled by offspinner Prenelan Subrayan after the batsman was caught in two minds and ended up being stuck in the crease.

Levi departed with the score on 70 before Omphile Ramela (11) was caught behind off a delivery from fast bowler Craig Alexander.

But Kieron Pollard (11 not out) and Dane Vilas (3 not out) saw the Cobras to the win with Pollard scoring the winning runs with a massive six over wide long-on.

The Dolphins total was built around a 49-run third-wicket stand between Jonathan Vandiar and Vaughn van Jaarsveld, which came off 5.3 overs.

The Dolphins had slipped to 9-2 after the early loss of Morné van Wyk (0), caught by a diving Pollard at mid-off off the bowling of left-arm seamer Mthokozisi Shezi, and Cameron Delport (0), caught at mid-on off a long-hop from offspinner Sybrand Engelbrecht.

Vandiar, playing his first Ram Slam match of the season, was dropped with his score on 14 before blazing his way to 33 off just 18 balls, which included six fours.

But Vandiar’s entertaining innings was ended when he holed out to Pollard at long-on off the bowling of left-arm spinner Linde.

Van Jaarsveld struck two sixes, one over long-on and the other over long-off, as he weighed in with 29 off 22 balls before he top-edged a delivery from speedster Dane Paterson and was caught by keeper Dane Vilas.

Bravo (3) and Frylinck (7), who struck a huge six that landed in the third tier of the grandstand, and Andile Phehlukwayo (0) then all departed in quick succession.

Subrayan (8) and Khaya Zondo (1 not out) put on eight runs for the eighth wicket before Linde bowled Subrayan with the last ball of the innings.

Paceman Ferisco Adams ended with 2-19.
