‘Cocaine seven’ bail case postponed to Friday

THE case in which a Pietermaritzburg magistrate is considering bail applications launched by seven alleged cocaine dealers in the capital was yesterday postponed to Friday for judgment.

Magistrate Bessie du Preez indicated she wasn’t ready to deliver judgment in the matter yesterday as planned.

The accused are among a total of eight charged in three separate cases with multiple counts of dealing or alternatively possessing cocaine.

One of the accused, Zaheer Buckroodeen, was previously given bail of R700 while the state remained opposed to the granting of bail in respect of Zainath “Shireen” Hutchinson (who is currently on parole after previously earning a 20-year jail term for drug dealing), Faybian MacKay, his brother, Samsam ­MacKay, Hoosen Mohamed Shaik Cassim, Ramesh Mahabeer, ex-policeman Sagren ­Pillay and Deon Gabagas.
