Cocaine: suspects in court

2013-08-06 00:00

MEMBERS of a Pietermaritzburg drug “syndicate” believed to be some of the province’s biggest drug dealers, made a brief appearance in court yesterday and were remanded in custody until their formal bail application.

Yosmi Mohamed (46), Hoosan Mohamed (48), Norman Govender (48), Khubashe Nelson (47), Tony Ramthew (52), Azam Ismail (31) and Suleman Ismail Sheik (39) are charged with dealing in cocaine in the Northdale area.

It took police eight months of undercover work before the arrest of the group. They will be back in court on August 16.

The state is opposing bail.

Later yesterday in another courtroom, two other men also appeared charged with drug dealing.

Terrence Moonsamy and Shabir Vankia were added to the charge sheet in a matter where Vigie Moonsamy appeared on Friday and was released on R2 500 bail.

They will be back in court on August 12 for formal bail application.

They were all arrested on Friday after police raided homes in Northdale.
