THE world’s 12th-ranked Investec South Africa women’s hockey team beat world number 18 Scotland 5-2 on the back of a Pietie Coetzee hat-trick and two other excellent goals after the scores were 2-1 at half-time in an entertaining fourth Test in Glasgow on Thursday.

The win gives South Africa a 3-0 lead in the five-Test series, with the fifth Test at 3.30 pm (SA time) today. The first Test was a 2-2 draw with the second international 2-1 to South Africa and the third 4-2 to the girls in green and gold.

Apart from the 33-year-old Coetzee’s trio of top-class goals, which took her world record tally to an incredible 237 in 240 Test matches, the other excellent SA goals went to Kate Woods and captain Marsha Marescia.

Scotland scored through Ailsa Wyllie and captain Linda Clement.
