Cold season closes with keen contests

2011-06-18 00:00

WITH most schools ending their winter season this term, games will be hotly contested on the hockey pitches in the three matches taking place today.

The game at Michaelhouse, where they are hosting traditional rivals Hilton in a return fixture, will be as keenly contested as the first. In a goal fest Hilton ran out 4-3 winners as Michaelhouse played from behind throughout.

On their home pitch Michaelhouse will fancy themselves, particularly as the Hilton results seem to indicate some loss of form recently. The home side will also be bolstered by their good win against Kearsney last Saturday.

Two sides that have arguably been the most improved on the KZN circuit this season are Westville and Glenwood. The latter will host Westville with the confidence of knowing that they have already beaten them in the Durban Night Series.

In two of their recent games, against Maritzburg College and DHS, Westville have fared better than Glenwood, indicating that they are now a better side than when they played earlier in the season. It will be a close contest and one worth watching.

The only other game is at St Charles where they host Kearsney. St Charles are a young side with most of their players back next year and they are rebuilding. After three losses in the last little while, Kearsney will be determined to end their season on a winning note.

FIXTURES IN BRIEF: Michaelhouse v Hilton; Glenwood v Westville; St Charles v Kearsney
