Coldplay to perform in Cape Town and Jo’burg, but no gigs for KZN

2011-05-10 00:00

UK rock group Coldplay will be performing for the first time in South Africa on October 5 at Cape Town Stadium and October 8 at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

This is cold comfort for KZN fans who will have to travel to those cities or miss out. The tour is presented by 94.5 KFM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and M-Net.

CEO of Big Concerts, Attie Van Wyk commented: “Coldplay is one of the most exciting British bands to ever visit our shores. After 10 years of knocking on the door, we are incredibly excited that they have finally confirmed two stadium shows”. Coldplay’s songs have captured millions of fans around the world since the release of Parachutes in 2000.

Their second album A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) won Record of the Year at the 2004 Grammys.

Their third album X&Y became the best selling album of 2005 with worldwide sales of 11 million. Viva La Vida (2008) is described as a new direction.

It became their first UK number one based on download sales alone.
