Collapse: 30 injured aseck fails

2010-03-29 00:00

THIRTY people were injured, some seriously, when a deck collapsed at a packed tavern in Umlazi last night.

Derrick Banks of ER24 said when emergency services arrived hundreds of people on the scene made it difficult for paramedics to assess the number of injured and the severity of their injuries.

They treated 15 people for serious injuries, including fractures, lacerations and possible neck injuries. The other 15 had minor injuries, Banks said.

A Sapa reporter described the scene as chaotic before paramedics were able to assess the injured, with bleeding people lying on the road and a huge hole where the deck had been, as curious onlookers milled about.
