College dominate KZN Inland teams

2012-11-08 00:00

The KZN Inland cricket sides in the four age groups were announced on Tuesday.

Among the three high school teams, U15, U17 and U19, Maritzburg College dominate with 13 players, but at the U19 level, only four boys high schools each have three representatives in the 13.

At the U17 and U15 age groups, College have most players (5) in both. Michaelhouse have four players in the U17 and three players in the U15, while Hilton also have three representatives in the U15 team.

In the U13 team, it is St Charles Prep that have the most with 4 players. Merchiston, Egerton and Cordwalles follow with two players each.

One problem that affects the smaller unions like KZN Inland is finding the required quota of six players of colour. In the U19 side, there are players who are still U16 and they would probably fare better with the U17 side, but they have been selected in the senior team due to not having the quota from U19 players.

The main Coca Cola Khaya Majola U19 week takes place in Potchefstroom from December 16-21 and will culminate in the naming of an SA Schools team.

The U17 week is from December 12-16 in Cape Town. The U15 is from December 8-12 in Durban and the U13 week is in the Boland at both Paarl and Stellenbosch.

The capping ceremony will be held at the Maritzburg Oval on Sunday, November 25, during lunch break in the Momentum 50-over match between Dolphins and Knights.
