College face Michaelhouse, Saints meet Hilton in semis

2011-01-25 00:00

THE KZN Inland semi-finals of the Standard Bank Schools T20 competition will be played in the capital this afternoon — on Goldstones at Maritzburg College and at the St Charles Oval.

College play Michaelhouse, and looking at their respective matches this year, College will be favourites.

Although they lost their senior batsmen at the end of last year, they have a core of experienced players from a successful side.

Two players, Kewan Harries and Gareth Orr, scored centuries on Saturday and speedster Daryn Dupavillon took five wickets against Kearsney last Wednesday.

Michaelhouse lost more of their experienced players, but from a side that was not as successful.

The match at the St Charles oval, where St Charles meet Hilton, is likely to be a close one. Hilton played well to beat Michaelhouse on Thursday last week with Jason Shield scoring a ton. Although they lost against Maritzburg College on Saturday, their batsmen did reasonably well.

St Charles won comfortably against Clifton on Saturday, but they were beaten by Westville last Tuesday.

They are a side who have few stars, although Jarad Streicher has taken five wickets in a match.

The winners of these two matches will play the Inland final on January 31.

In Durban, the Coastal semi-finals take place tomorrow at Kingsmead. Glenwood will play DHS at 10 am and Kearsney play Ilembe from the North Coast at 2 pm.
