College hockey favoured to win

2013-07-27 00:00

THE two hockey matches that take place today should both be intriguing for different reasons. Both have KZN schools playing home games against schools from Pretoria. Maritzburg College play their return game against Pretoria BHS and Glenwood play against Affies.

Early in the second term, PBHS surprised College by beating them 3-0 and today College will be looking for a turnaround in fortunes.

College lost just one game after the defeat against Boys’ High although they were under pressure in others where there were four drawn games.

PBHS lost last week against Grey College and they will be determined to get back to the winning trail but it will not be easy away from home. College have become a stronger unit since the earlier game although their opposition are also likely to have improved. Certainly the results against schools that they have both played are very similar, indicating a close contest.

With home-ground advantage and having reversed a similar result against Hilton in the second match, College will be favourites to win today.

Affies travel to Durban and as they lost last week on their home turf against College, they will be keen to win today. Glenwood are arguably the team that have shown the most progress this year and they will be confident of a victory against the Pretoria lads.

Two schools that both have played are College and Rondebosch. The results were similar against College, Glenwood losing 1-2 and Affies 0-2, but against Rondebosch played earlier in the season, Affies lost 0-2 whereas Glenwood drew 1-1.
